Toddler The toddler years are full of learning and new experiences for your child. We know selecting the right education and care program for your toddler is one of your most important decisions.
Our Toddler Program is designed for children ages 12 months to 3 years. We have two Toddler classrooms. Each classroom has a maximum of ten children with two staff. The class size is small and inviting to make it feel more like home for the youngest of children. This is a period of self-development and preparation for the Primary Program. It is designed to assist the child toward independence, social awareness, respect and the development of motor skills and language. The toilet training process is introduced and supported during this developmental stage.
Many of the activities in the toddler program highlight self-help skills that lead to independence. Children are gently reminded to hang up their own coats and to problem solve instead of saying “I can’t.” Since this is an age of very strong imitation, the teachers model appropriate social skills, good manners and consideration of others. Joining conversations, listening to stories, classifying objects and learning songs and poems all nurture their emerging language skills.
Through song, dance and freedom of choice within limits, the toddlers have access to a variety of large muscle activities that offer them opportunities to jump, climb, balance or gallop. This freedom in a safe place is critical to the toddler program. However, it is always tempered by three important limits that will be beneficial for a lifetime - - respect for yourself, respect for others and respect for the environment.
