Programs
Each classroom has one Montessori Certified Lead Teacher supported by one or more assistant teachers. The infant classroom has a 3.33 to 1 child to teacher ratio. The toddler classrooms have a 5 to 1 child to teacher ratio and the primary classrooms have a 10 to 1 child to teacher ratio. Each of the classrooms utilizes the proven Montessori philosophy for educating and caring for young children.

The Montessori philosophy was developed over 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori in Italy. Over the past several years, research studies have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a Montessori education. Most recently, in a study published in 2006 in the journal Science, researchers found that children in a Montessori preschool (versus more traditional types of early childhood education settings) had better academic and social outcomes. Montessori students proved to be significantly better prepared for elementary school in reading and math skills than the non-Montessori children. They also tested better on “executive function,” the ability to adapt to changing and more complex problems, an indicator of future school and life success. Montessori children also displayed better abilities on social and behavioral tests, demonstrating a greater sense of justice and fairness. On the playground they were much more likely to engage in emotionally positive play with peers and less likely to engage in rough play.

Each Montessori classroom incorporates an age range of children. The extended time a child stays with one teacher allows a strong and caring relationship to form between the child, teacher and family. The extended time also allows for fewer transitions during the early childhood years and allows the children to develop true friendships. In the multi-age setting, the children learn from each other and because of each other. The multi-age classroom benefits the children in other ways as well. The older children have the opportunity to become leaders in the classroom and reinforce their knowledge by sharing it with the younger ones. The younger ones get a chance to look ahead and see future activities. Because of this constant interaction, the children learn to take responsibility for themselves and for each other. They also learn to get along with children of different ages and abilities, to respect each other’s work, and to treat each other with courtesy. In short, the classroom becomes a thriving community.
